It’s not the act of reading as in seeing letters on the page but it is consuming storytelling through the oral tradition which has been the oldest form of storytelling in human history. To say it’s not fully reading is to say those who need braille to consume stories are not reading as they are not using their eyes to read.

Fun fact: reading begins in the visual cortex; listening begins in the auditory cortex. Everything after that: the info converges on many of the same language-processing regions in your brain. Comprehension-wise, it’s very similar!

I like audiobooks and count it as reading because I'm also actually READING. Audiobooks help me stay focused/helps me tune out everything else as I follow along in my book. If you're just listening to the audiobook though, I don't think it counts as reading
