Manager here, whenever my employees ask for vacation or time off, I always ask this question. If the company can manage just fine in your absence, then are you really needed at your job? If they continue with the time off request, I grant it, but they don’t have a job to come back to.

Mu current situation, Im the only one employee in charge of all of our payables am receivables, I'm taking a week off on the most chaotic week of the month and my manager is currently looking for a new employee who can learn everything I do in one week. That's not going to happen btw

I don't see it as an understaffing problem, I see it as a management problem mostt times...got plenty of people capable of doing the work, but only the person taking time off is actually doing it
