@holl_005: I put my first £100 into a ready-made dividend portfolio because I’m trying to build long-term passive income, but now I’m wondering if I’d be better off creating my own instead. If you’ve been investing for a while, what would you do? Would you keep adding to a ready-made pie, build your own, or focus on something completely different? I’m genuinely looking to learn, so all advice is appreciated. #dividend #stockmarket #investing #viral #fyp

Wouldn't bother with dividends it's slow growth for our age compared to normal

I’m in the same one, since end of march up 8% better than sitting in the bank, maybe not as good as growth stocks as others are mentioning but works for me.

1. It’s got a min investment threshold of £400 to get the almost daily dividends so you need £400 minimum in that pie. 2. You’re very young and growth is on your side, I wouldn’t bother with dividends plays at your age

Dividends are good for retirement. This pie is pointless unless you have a large amount of capital to invest. Having a few hundred £'s won't matter. Stocks are selected for their dividend payout date rather than their soundness. Having Microsoft at 2% for 0.70% dividend tells you all you need to know.

Only thing with that one is you probably won’t see the full benefits of the dividends with only £100 as it’s only putting little in each, sometimes now reaching the threshold

Dividend investing is fine if you’re retired, have £100,000 invested and want an extra £500 a month on average or something but at your age, growth stocks and global ETFs will make you far wealthier in the long run

In my opinion you're best of trying to buy into stocks with a higher growth potential and then at the point when you want to pull from your portfolio you can move ex amount into a dividends portfolio.

terrible! the return is poor. you could pick 4 quarterly paying stocks or 6 twice a year stocks that all have a track history of 5/10 years of paying consistently and increasing dividends and make a better return.

As a lot of people have already said, you're better off going for growth. The mental win of a dividend is nice tho so I'd recommend going for distributing growth ETFs (VHYL, VWRL)

I invested in that pie in my early days. Nice to get dividends regularly but I quickly learned that the dividends are very small compared to investing in growth companies so I pulled the investment and put it elsewhere. REITs are decent if you want dividends

If you are investing in too many companies you will not get enough dividends to make a difference. I have a 12 company dividend pie, the target is £10 a month per company. It’s diversified and I also have growth companies and low risk to high risk dividend companies. Been investing into it for 28months and it currently makes me £100 a month. I also have none dividend stocks, I would not rely solely on dividend stocks. I’d make your own pie with a mix of dividend kings and other decent general companies to balance the pie.

Growth stocks beat dividends. I have had both and dividends feel nice but the total return is not as good as growth stocks.

No point unless you’re retired looking for a low growth but stable investment with monthly residual income coming from it.
