Not sure about the original poster but staying in your current role in corporate america for too long means slowly accumulating COL adjustment bumps. And eventually you’ll start to make more than your salary bands at that level and I’m convinced “leadership” will use that as a reason to fire you. So they can re-hire that role at a lower salary or even more likely, not backfill that role and spread it across other underpaid employees. I’m 1000% down for not making your career your life but I do worry that staying in the same role at the same company for too long and accumulating pay bumps will bite you in the ass before of greedy corps.

My grandpa worked at a factory from the 1950s until he retired from that job. He chose to stay in the same position for the same amount of money and stress. He specifically didn’t take a promotions for this reason. He retired in the 80s of 90s and ended up passing away at 65. Like is too short to work jobs and be stressed out.
