If humans existed with the dinosaurs, we could have prevented their extinction

Seraphel :
Morality is a human construct. Throwing humanity out in some attempt to be more moral is pointless because there’s no morality without humans.

While I do believe love and joy are worth preserving I think it’s important to acknowledge that suffering and trauma drastically alters people. No one ever gets PTSD from joy. But the amount of people who suffer and find it hard to move forward is overwhelming. So many people are out here and come to the realization there’s no inherent meaning to life and struggle with finding joy again in life.

I don’t have kids cause I couldn’t see a good reason to do it in my life. But erasing the human race was not on my mind that’s serious

The problem is capitalism, not reproduction.

TypicallyCynical :
I want us to voluntarily stop reproducing due to the sheer shit storm of collateral damage we bring to the table and our deep set intent to harm each other at scale. Animals hurt each other... animals don't do what we do. Not like we do.

Suffering will happen with or without humans. Why would we think that we are any better than other life forms to the point where we’d deserve to not experience suffering? Is the experience of love, beauty, grace, etc. not worth experiencing some amount of suffering?

Tired Lady :
I’ve thought about this for whites some time, kind of like the implications of the movie, “Soylent Green”, where it’s the people opting for voluntary self-euthanasia. I wonder if that might end up becoming a more viable option given what climate change will bring in the next 5-15 years. I think that the main problem is that this planet was basically “founded” on predation, we/nature are essentially doing exactly what we’ve been wired to do. That’s the part I have a very hard time reconciling. I’m on the road to empathy, I hope it can give us the answers, otherwise, if we die out, so be it. Thing is, I’d prefer it to not be because of these rich a-holes.

Humans have stopped some species from going into extinction, but we were likely the ones that put them there in the first place.

I mean, that’s gonna happen regardless. What happened to the dinosaurs will happen to us. The earth will be fine. I give it 130 years.

The interesting part of this video to me is the absolute denial of suffering being a natural and valuable part of any living beings experience of themselves and of life.

DaCrackFox🦊 :
We will eventually cause our own extinction along with many other life forms. The Earth will heal and new life will take over. Extinction is the rule, survival is the exception.

Fidel Caplan :
Antinatalism isn’t necessarily utilitarian - ie it doesn’t have to be about reducing overall suffering. It could be about refusing to be a part of causing suffering, and urging others to join in, thus being a deontological philosophy.

anyone who communicates with animals consistently is told by wild animals that the human species is like a fungus on the world. I agree

I loved his take on consciousness. "We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, a secretion of sensory experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody's nobody. I think the human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware; nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law."

How about just reducing the number of people having children instead of this panic over depopulation.
