What if they say it’s the onset of dementia, not walking or able to bath , go to bathroom , but their mind is still very grand , they feel or think they can still do stuff but are choosing not too . Memory ( short term ) not very good , long term memories are still semi good . Dementia is so confusing

From our first worry to death we had 11 months. It escalated extremely fast and she never got diagnosed correctly. We didn’t see any stages. We paid for an autopsy so we had answers-vascular dementia. 6 months after first signs of confusion she was a raging, screaming, unidentified person and less than a year we lost her dramatically. It was a wild, wild ride and I think we all have trauma from it.

I don’t want to live if I ever reach that stage. Is there anything I can do to make my wishes clear? I wouldn’t want to be kept alive if I were in a permanent vegetative state with no chance of recovery.

My mom went from 6a to 6d very quickly. Within a month and then she passed away. I am so grateful she didn’t spend a lot of time in the stage.

This is so helpful my mom is stage five so it’s really helpful to hear what Is next . In your opinion is it feasible to have home care hired in at level 6 or best to be in memory care in facility . I know that’s a very vague question with many nuances but I guess I’m asking cause I’m so uncertain what’s ahead

My aunt was diagnosed at 60 and she got to 6D within 5-6yrs. She is also not very verbal. Its very hard to see a previous very social and active Math teacher go through this. Its just horrible.

my FIL was fecal incontinent long before he struggled to dress and bathe himself. Now he needs help with all of it though we still try and encourage him to do it on his own when he can. He still uses the bathroom by himself, it's just a matter of will he actually aim into the toilet or am I gonna have to mop the floor. #2 sometimes he makes it sometimes he doesn't. when he dresses, sometimes he needs help and sometimes he doesn't.

I believe my mother is 6a… she refused to shower for over a year… I get her in once a week now. But it’s a fight. I have to give her clothes and tell her what to wear and help with some things. I push her to do it herself. She can use the bathroom- but when I see her underwear when I do the laundry, I know she has some accidents. And just recently I had to start giving her softer food, she choked a bit and threw up a couple times. We need her doctor to do a swallow test.

My mom is 6D and we took her out of memory care because she was not being cared for properly. She needed fulltime sitters and it was just too expensive.

so can we please talk about how the word dementia is a broad umbrella term for many types of dementia ie lewy body vascular frontal temporal. each type of dementia progresses in its own way and each person experiences dementia differently based on various environmental, dietary, routine based and so on. also can we please talk about how ALZ is a totally different disease that may have the same symptoms but is not caused by the same thing

Here in Canada even someone at stage 6 there is no where for these people. So they sit at home and have the government workers come in everyday to wash them. Maybe take 15-20 minutes of personal care. True story.

my gran has 6a,6c,and 6d. she's end stage with a 3 to 15 month expectancy

My dad is 83. He is somewhere in stage 6. He can dress himself. Button downs, khakis, belt, shoes, all by himself. He can feed himself but he cannot bathe himself. He toilets fine at home but is fecal incontinent away from home. He is 12 yrs in. This past year is when things have progressed the fastest.

My mom is at stage 6 and has stage 4 cancer on top of it. She lost control of walking, her bowels and has a foley for her urine. It is so sad man.
