I miss eating those. 😋 We grew up eating those here in Hawaii from my Samoan Grandmother. She would dive for it, scrape it on the rocks, cut it open, clean it, certain parts from the inside she would put in a jar & then chop up the sea cucumber, put it in a separate jar & let it marinate with shoyu & lemon. The best was the jars of sea urchin meat. 🤤 My Dad would even cook the eel with coconut milk and eat it but it had so much bones. He was the only guy I saw that ate a puffer fish & rock fish. People would tell him it's poison but he said he knows how to clean it. There was a time we caught a shark & called him to let him know but we let it go. We got home and he was disappointed because he said he wanted to eat it 🤦♀️but we didn't bring no shark home 😂 He literally ate everything from the ocean. He would bite the legs off the octopus and eat it while it's still alive & its getting stuck to his face. He bites the fish & eat it while it's flapping it's tail, pull on it while it's in his mouth and rip that fish to shreds. I miss my Dad & Grandmother. No more of those experiences. I'm sure your Dad had those experiences too.

My grandparents ate this. They would clean the inside then cut it up in slices and keep it in a huge jar that would sit in the fridge. They sometimes would soak it in beer and chew on it like bubblegum.

It’s called Balate’ on Guam! We used to make them squirt the sticky string from their butts as kids to terrorize our friends at the beach. So many people eat it (I am a vegetarian though so never tried).
