@sarah_kamen: Healthy sea turtles naturally shed algae and barnacles by scratching on rocks and coral, and actively swimming through the ocean. Kailani couldn't, so we gave her shell a fresh start 🧖‍♀️ These weren't just hitchhikers. Kailani's barnacles had become embedded beneath thick algae, making careful removal an important part of her rehabilitation 🐢 She still has a ways to go in her #rehab journey, but at least now she’s improving, clean, and much much lighter #barnacles #spaday #seaturtle #seaturtleconservation

fun fact! turtles are literally connected to their shells so when you scrub their shells they can feel it and find it a nice relaxing massage
