Denim adds depth to the outfit because it’s a mixture of darker and lighter blues, when paired with different tops the tops color will make a specific shade of blue pop out of the denim, but plain blue shorts tend to be one uniform color of blue meaning they don’t have the color versatility of denim (this is a theory)

I wonder if denim has just become a default in peoples minds. like we barely see it as a color and more of a standard material, so it doesn't clash in our heads. I have no idea beyond that theory lol
