Or hot take: Maddox was more "gentle" with her, after seeing the other timeline, and seeing how much Red suffered. I think he actually still has memories of the other timeline, which didn't help when he went "mad". Headcanon: He argues with himself a lot, due to remembering vague things from the other timeline. On one had, he knows he's a villain in this timeline, but when he puts Max or Red or even Pink in danger, he may smash things, (or even) harm himself by running into, or smacking his head, because he knew, once upon a time, he loved Red and Max, and now cares for Pink just as much. Kind of like, a split personality disorder of some kind?
