This coming generation is insanely punitive, it's discouraging to see. I see them saying cheating should be illegal, that we should recriminalize alcohol, that getting a minor fender bender should result in you losing your license forever, and so on. They really are becoming the new boomers.

things are bad but giving an unfair government more excuses to persecute people is not the solution. extreme example but i dont support the death penalty, not because i think certain horrific criminals dont deserve it, but because i do not trust the system in place do appoint it properly. this is the same with many other things

also ok this is extreme but stuff like. idk a situation where someone has expressed they wanna break up but the other hasnt accepted it?? and the other person starts seeing other people?? would they then need physical evidence that the other person wanted to break up before they started seeing new people? how fucking messy would that get? bcs in that case, a "i told them i wanted to break up" situation would get he-said-she-said INSTANTLY. and what do you do then?

Not to mention like??? Everybody has a different view of what is expected in a relationship, therefore everybody has a different view of what cheating is, some are more controlling than others. Some consider having friends of their preferred sex to be cheating, others don’t even consider sleeping with other people to be cheating. You can’t have one singular definition in the law or it would be used to harm people who, by their and their partners definition, haven’t done it.

Tbh if cheating becomes illegal there will probably be more intiment partner homicides… a person realizes they are the “other person” and want to let the other partner know and the cheater will kill the other partner now, imagine how much more likely that will be if you put that shit on their permanent legal record?

I wonder what would happen to the partners if the punishment is prison time. would they still be married while the other one is in prison for cheating and then if the loyal partner is caught with someone else during that time they just have to join their partner is prison??? 😭 what would count as cheating, explicitly being caught in the act of intercourse or would seductive texts suffice (then there'd be a thin line between emotional cheating and joking and actually sexting)

I mean, there are already laws regarding cheating right? That's what law around adultery are. Do they think we need laws regarding cheating before marriage? How would you even determine that you're in a relationship with someone enough for those laws to apply?
