I remember thinking the goggles were gonna be usopps equivalent to luffys straw hat. When bon clay steals them in alabasta it made me hate their guts lol. it makes way more sense knowing oda wrote that with the idea they had no emotional significance to him. Toei was kinda at their peak filler wise early in the timeskip.

If it’s not blatantly in the manga it’s not canon. Even the SBS we’ve seen Oda either blatantly lying or changing his mind and contradicting answers he previously gave in the manga. Once the series is we can have discussions about supplemental material if it fits. But none of it, the movies, the light novels, etc are canon
