@dexterfrankenstein: Part 4 - 5 more things that happen when you are late diagnosed neurospicy. This will probably be my last entry in this series. These are based on my personal journey and I don't want to start making things up just to keep it going. I'll be back with a new series soon! Thanks to everyone who has followed along and shared your stories in the comments! 🧠🌶️🩵 #neurospicy #audhd #latediagnosedautistic #latediagnosedadhd

How or where do you start to find a therapist to help identify and or diagnose?

I’ve got ADHD. I was always told as a child that I made careless mistakes on my schoolwork, which I never understood. It felt devastating because I cared so much about school. Even now in my 30’s, the term careless mistakes upsets me because of how often I heard it as a kid

I got angry because I have been going to psychologists for treatment of depression and anxiety FOR 25 YEARS!!! AND NO ONE QUESTIONED why isn't this treatment working etc, I kept saying there is something else underlying my depression, they all completely ignored me. I even sat through 8 hours of Defence Force psych testing- the two main things I got out of that is I have a massive sense of responsibility and I'm in a lot of pain...... anyhow I was deemed suitable to be in charge of teenagers (for cadets). Anyway I had to refer myself for assessment with a psychiatrist and pull $1500 out of my arse, and that was because I was 49 and starting to have a mental breakdown. I am basically hovering in burnout and I still don't have access to any support, and that pisses me off too.

Oh, Dex....first off I love your voice. I'm late diagnosed autistic and very attuned to my auditory sense. Your voice is so soothing to me. And then your content is just like wow, yes. I'm 48 diagnosed autistic in December and have been in severe burnout since then. Long story but what I want to say in response to this post is how much humor I have in almost every interaction. I used to reserve my humor, save it until I knew the other person would get it. Not anymore. I crack jokes, I tell stories, and it's a huge part of who I am that has been hidden. It's kind of wild to me because even I'm shocked at what comes out of my mouth sometimes these days. 😂 But it's fun and never with any malice. It's just freeing to be me in thi candid way.

I saw something that said “it’s not your responsibility to prove to them why you’re Autistic”. They’ll mention “typical presentations” they saw from Hollywood, then say “ you aren’t like that”. Or that “we are all a little Autistic” or “I cant focus too” and “You don’t look like you’re Autistic”. Im glad there are people like you to bridge that gap for us who just started figuring it out. 🌸

It's been recent I have realized I am neurodivergent. My son is autistic, and I am now realizing why my parents were so protective over me growing up and as an adult. I was never diagnosed, but I am looking at maybe getting an official diagnosis.

so much anger inside 😫 😅 im working on getting that handled cause its not my fault. im just different. even now my parents still dont believe it or get why I am changing stuff at work for once in other to get accommodations so I can still work but not be exhausted mentally from it. the social parts of my job drain me so much. im already in trouble because I missed 17 days this year 😅 yet others dont get in trouble. that one thing i hate the injustice and patterns 😅 when it comes to work. I also have severe ocd thoughts and work is one of my ocd cause I try to do everything cause people cant do it the specific way etc... i worry about clients etc heck im on vacation this week and I still think of it 😳😅

I was the person who “lit up the room” a “social butterfly” “everybody’s friend” until I was diagnosed AuDHD at almost 60 years old. I am not those things anymore because I learned to prioritize myself, and MY needs, so I can have energy for the small few who are true friends.

I'm 59 was diagnosed last year, it has given me a understanding of myself. This is the most draining thing to have. The mssking is draining, the knowing what you want and how to do it but can't get it done for the life of you just fills you with pain disappointment and anxiety

I am 47 and life finally makes sense. I was diagnosed a yr and half ago. It's been a roller coaster of emotions and I've allowed myself to feel them. I'm still figuring out who I am

Your videos put into words my current state perfectly. My sister said she thought I was way more volatile recently because I stopped hiding my emotions. I didn't even realize how much I'd dropped masking. I laughed because not hiding when I'm upset anymore is seen as "volatile" yet I haven't had a major depressive episode in months🤪

So angry, especially because my own father was my school district’s child psychologist. I grew uo with lots of privilege and am a failure by capitalist societal standards—I can’t imagine how many other kids he could have helped but didn’t, and are suffering/dead now
