hypocritical af arguement. you are literally making excuses for universities that enforce unnecessary classes so you dont have to change your opinion. nobody is saying there is something wrong with taking humanities and electives. they are saying it's a scam because they become mandatory for your chosen career path that you are investing thousands in. what's more important to being an electrical engineer? 6-11 humanities and electives courses unrelated to electrical engineering for $20k-$50k total, or 6-11 more electrical engineering courses, physics, math, etc for the same relative price?... why not throw in some mechanical engineering instead of music or college level PE?

One college economics class turned me into a liberal because they asked us to fact check and cite sources for an assignment related to politicians.. I quite literally couldn't find a conservative politician who wasnt lying through their teeth 24/7 🤣

It’s the definition of liberal arts. Liberal=many. I have a fashion degree but my favorite class was entomology! And I think that’s awesome

I work at a community college and I keep telling students that their job isn't to agree or disagree with any particular idea, but to present a logical argument and back it up with credible sources. Somehow it's mostly the conservatives that have issues with this.

Hot Take: The highest form of intelligence or the highest emotional intelligence and true logical thought can only be found in centrism. being strongly against another party or even having hatred shows you lack analytical and critical thinking and struggle to look past your own feelings and find the nuance and the details of different topics. High enough emotional intelligence leads people to feeling forced to pick a side rather than consciously choosing one since almost all beliefs at a high enough intellect can be seen as rational and most times no side seems any better than the other.

The funny part is that you apparently didn’t understand her original argument. Her argument isn’t that she has to take liberal classes and that is dumb, her argument is that as a conservative, you are graded worse if you do not agree with those ideas. I.e. a conservative leaving position is often seen as being “wrong” and therefore is not going to receive a good grade. If colleges were truly as you explained, you would still get a good grade if you were able to sufficiently substantiate a conservative leaving position

By saying this you do know that means liberals have to be more open minded to conservative view points…… it can’t be one way.

She isn't calling herself a victim. She's arguing that some humanities courses can pressure students toward adopting a particular ideological perspective. For example, last semester my professor asked us to respond to this prompt: “explain how capitalism is built off racism”. A more “correct” prompt would have been to ask to evaluate the relationship between capitalism and racism using evidence. Unfortunately for me, a lot of my profs have had no shame in letting their political views openly affect our assignments. I've experienced it on both sides of the political spectrum. My own political views have shifted from the far left to the center, so I don't have a stake in taking one side over the other—I think you’ll agree with me when I say that professors should present students with unbiased facts and let them form their own opinions.

But kids go to college and wonder why they are unemployable when they paid 6 figures to learn from people who have never accomplished anything in the real world. You'd be better off going and started at the bottom and get paid to learn from someone who actively produces in a field you'd like to be in. There is a reason most business owners are conservative and more than half of them didn't go to college.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. However, college campuses have become very one sided and conservative ideas are looked down on. We should absolutely be able to have discussions and debate ideas on college campuses, but that’s not how it works out. It’s not that conservatives are rigid, it’s that the left is rigid.
