Are placement rate & match rate the same? My top school right now is UofSC and they have “100% placement rate for Clinical-Community and School programs”

Hi dr Erin, can you share your thoughts on some of the clinical psych phd programs that are moving to pcsas accreditation only (Berkeley, stony brook, etc). Would you recommend considering those?

Hi Dr. Erin,
Can you do a video on maybe how to become a nurse practitioner? I really want to be able to help people with medication but it's too late to go to medical school. I've also heard some psychologist can prescribe as well.

Match rates don’t tell the whole story. There are so many factors that go into a match rate. I was an academic director of clinical training for 15 years in psyd programs with good match rates. However, I also know there was only so much I could control. I couldn’t control how big the match imbalance is (this is currently increasing), that someone even with prep and practice still struggles in the interviews, if they are severally geographically restricted and can’t move, if they have very specific goals that involve internships in speciality areas that have limited availability, someone took 0 feedback on their materials or site list, and someone becoming ineligible or having to withdraw from the process. If a program only has 5 students has 100% match rates that doesn’t require a lot from the program but if a program has 60 students and has a 85+ match rate that requires a lot from the program. APA requires accredited programs maintain 75% APA match rates. The better questions are how does the program help students with the internship application process, where have people matched, do they have practicum in your areas of interest that will lead to being competitive for the type of internship you want.

Many thanks for the information; I believe fully funded programs have been so competitive these days.
