Yea a little incongruent. The actual point in the story is that he knew he wouldn't be able to resist trying to listen, so he asked to be tied to the mast. Just a weird choice for the movie.

When Odessyus was on Circe's Island he had a number of kids with her during the year he was there, one of the kids was a boy called Latinus, later in life he would become king of the Latinai people. He would give his name to their language and a region in a far off land called Latium, a place we know today as Italy. Fun bit of mythological history with you mentioning Rome being a place odessyus made up. 😅

Nolan is an amazing director for lots of reasons but the characters in all his films are always so bland and soulless. why remove all of Odyseus’s characterisation? Crucially, him shouting to the cyclops.

It’s hard to buy Odysseus being so distraught over destroying Troy when the first thing he does on the way home is burn a village to the ground and steal their food.

😂This is exactly what I’ve told people. The gult ptsd ridden hero works for a modern audience, but it does clash with the fact that Odysseus was honestly constantly trying to dunk on people with how clever and brave he was

dont know if this is true or not, but i heard the sirens made a deal with poseidon that if someone heard their music/song and survived (resist their temptation or whatever) they would die. so odysseus killed the sirens without knowing
