I used to work for State Parks and worked with a lot of scientists, including quite a few women. This is literally the worst nightmare. They would go through training on how to handle a crazy dude in the backcountry, and the Ranger team would check in on them. I cannot imagine how terrified they were, and how they're handling it now. This was just them, doing their own job, on the land they were helping steward. This is so upsetting, all of it.

I am a field archaeologist and we aren't allowed to carry any weapons or self protection for people OR animals. We are also working in remote areas and my employer genuinely has no way to confirm my whereabouts while I am working. It freaks me out.
