Healing begins when we are no longer required to deny the cruelty of what happened to us in order to remain accepted by others. For survivors of scapegoating and systemic abuse, the harm often extends beyond the original mistreatment. It can include having our experiences dismissed, our feelings invalidated, our character attacked, and the people responsible protected by family members, social groups, or cultural expectations. When the very people who should recognize our suffering instead reinforce the narrative that we are the problem, we can be left questioning ourselves while struggling to make sense of what happened. Validation helps interrupt & End the Cycle It allows survivors to acknowledge the reality of their experiences, recognize that their pain makes sense, and begin separating their own understanding of themselves from the blame and shame imposed upon them. When people make room for the truth, survivors no longer have to carry the additional burden of convincing everyone that their suffering was real or that what happened to them was cruel. This also supports survivors to externalize the shame & blame Compassion and support matters, even when the people responsible are parents, siblings, spouses, extended family members, or an entire culture that normalizes harmful behavior. A relationship, a family role, or a cultural tradition does not make cruelty less cruel. Survivors deserve the freedom to name the harm without having their humanity, credibility, or right to feel questioned simply because the truth is uncomfortable for others. We cannot undo what happened, but we can change what happens next. We can stop reinforcing the silence, shame, and collective denial that allow harmful patterns to continue. We can offer survivors the understanding and support that help them reclaim their self-trust, dignity, and autonomy. May we be the glitch in the universe. May we be the people who refuse to participate in the erasure of another person's suffering. May we create spaces where truth is not treated as betrayal, where compassion is not conditional on who caused the harm, and where survivors are not expected to sacrifice their reality to preserve someone else's comfort or reputation. #scapegoat #healing #livedexperience #validation #holdingspace #endingthecycle
