They’re like “what did they expect, putting this on the internet”. Like well I expect you not to be a raging asshole?

As a middle school teacher, 1000%. My entire classroom feels like a comment section. They have no impulse control, they all feel entitled to say whatever they want, and having a personality or being unique is considered cringey or being a tryhard. It’s exhausting.

And now this generation uses the word “glazing” with a negative connotation to mean making positive comments or saying something extra kind to someone. It’s insane.

many gen z are embarrassed about all the wrong things. they are embarrassed about putting effort into anything but somehow not embarrassed about their lack of social skills and being rude/ dismissive to others

I don’t think this is generational. The world has always been kinder to attractive people, to people with money and privilege. Bullies have been around forever and the victims were just expected to take it—“toughen up” or “that’s just life” was the attitude when I was growing up. I do think we have made progress in that area at least. We are much better, as a society, about recognizing bullying and calling it out, but historically we have always supported bullies. Staying silent is support. Not standing up for what is right is support. If we had stood up when we should have, we wouldn’t have bullies anymore. What has changed and what is new, is that we have new innovative ways to bully and torture each other i.e. smart phones, snap chat and social media etc. When I was a kid, at least you knew the bullying would stop when you got home, that isn’t the case anymore. There is literally no place a victim can go to get away from it and be safe. These new platforms have also emboldened people to say things they would never say in person because there is a level of anonymity. Anonymity gives people courage to behave like assholes, and just like the bullies of old, we support them with our silence or by piling on. We elected a bully to be president, which is such a clear indicator of how all generations support shitty behavior. Bravo to you for calling it out sis. Keep doing the right thing and calling them out. It matters.

Has anyone else noticed the comment sections are vile on nearly every video? If it's not slander it's jokes that undercut the human experience.

it's horrible and its all ages. I did a video using Ella Langley's version of froggy went a courtin sharing memories of my grandparents and someone who looked older thought it was ok to try and attack how I looked because it was colorful makeup.

It’s so ridiculous. And I feel like even in niche communities where they put less emphasis on looks they just invent something else to be an asshole about. It’s like people have a complete inability to keep some thoughts to themselves now.

Do you guys think (teachers and other parents ig) bullying is more common now in general? Bc I wasn’t a particularly cool or popular kid but I don’t recall getting bullied hardly ever at all and my kid says it’s like all the time or pretty much every day so is that just normal now? Are kids just more assholey in general or?

I just saw a young lady crying on here because she is being attacked and her family doxxed because she disagreed with another content creator. They are cowards who hide behind keyboards and think they are the ones who are in the right. It's disgusting.
