I want to share what happened to because it honestly crossed the line. At around 7 PM, I was on the BTS Silom Line heading home. Just before arriving at Sala Daeng Station, I suddenly heard extremely loud shouting from outside the train. The train hadn’t even stopped yet, and even with my headphones on, I could hear it clearly. When the doors opened, a large group of foreign students got on. They kept shouting, yelling, and playing around the entire time. It wasn’t normal conversation—it was constant screaming, repeating the same words over and over, loud enough that people across the whole carriage turned to look. To be clear, this wasn’t just “kids talking.” It was so loud that it disturbed everyone around them. Even with music playing through my headphones, I could still hear them. So I simply said, “Could you please keep it down?” What happened after that is shown in the video. A woman, who appeared to be their teacher or group leader, told me, “Please be patient. They’re just kids. You can’t expect kids to be quiet.” I replied, “This is Thailand. If you ask them to be quiet, you’ll see how quiet people usually are on the BTS.” She then responded by saying “Fuck you” to me several times because I was recording the incident. Meanwhile, another group of girls standing nearby apologized to me. I told them I wasn’t upset with them because they hadn’t done anything wrong—I only hoped they could ask their friends to lower their voices. As they were getting off the train, some of the students started insulting me, telling me to “go to the hospital,” making disrespectful comments about my parents, and shouting more insults. After getting off, several of them knocked on the train window, gave me the middle finger, and continued yelling from outside. Most of what happened was captured on video. I’m not posting this to judge or stereotype an entire nationality. Good and respectful people exist everywhere. What disappointed me was the behavior of this particular group and the fact that the adults responsible for them failed to manage the situation. Public transportation is a shared space. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, everyone should respect the people around them. I also hope this raises a question for both the group supervisors and BTS staff. If a large group is already causing a disturbance before boarding, could there be a better way to manage the situation before it escalates like this?
