@dr_inna: To tag or not to tag? I don’t have any hope that he will listen and stop posting false claims about ADHD and other things. Most likely he will just block me, if anything. After all, he must continue being “brave, genuine, principled, obsessed” to be booked for speaking and to keep “changing the global conversation on ADHD with raw truth and radical inclusion” (from his website). Who cares if the “truth” is untrue and “inclusion” is ableist!
If ADHD protects me from stupidity, why does it make me do fucking stupid things? 💁

my ADHD is not a superpower. it's debilitating. I forget important shit all the time, I struggle to start tasks at work, I chase dopamine, I struggle in my personal relationships, I struggle to regulate my emotions. I am so sick of these fake psychology experts.

Dr. Inna, apropos cognitive rigidity in Autism, could you talk about how autistic traits can manifest similar to narcissistic traits? I've thought about this for awhile, how, if you're not self aware as an autistic person, ones need for predictability, structure, discomfort with foreign environments or sudden change of plans can manifest as trying to control situations or people, similar to narcissistic reactions? I guess narcissism maybe isn't a formal diagnosis, but I'd still like to know your thoughts

People with ADHD enjoy sweeping statements insinuating that they are, by virtue of their simply existing, more intelligent, creative, have better judgement, and are more reasonable than other people. This is attributed to people with ADHD being a subset of "all people", who notably share the listed prefered traits to describe themselves.

I’m so sick of the ever-growing list of specific traits and abilities assigned to neurodivergent people in these click-bait claims. Especially this “pattern recognition” nonsense.

“Neurodivergent” but he only means autism and ADHD, most neurodivergent people don’t have autism or ADHD (because neurodivergent is such a huge umbrella that includes people with CTE, post natal depression, anti social personality disorder etc)

They call it pattern recognition and brag about it, but half the time it’s just forcing connections between things that barely relate, dressing up vague associations as insight. Finding patterns is easy; finding real patterns that hold up under scrutiny is the difficult part.

I get so frustrated when people overgeneralize "ND" and "NT" people. Saying which-very human- traits belong to which. I have friends that complain about how NT people do (insert trait here) and Im just like... you do that too. These are people things. Allistic people and Autistic people dont fit in the boxes we keep trying to shove them in! Just because someone acts a way YOU find frustrating, doesnt automatically define their cognitive level or disability. I struggle with this sometimes too. Ill find Ill relate to someone and automatically think they might be autistic. Its not fair to them. Lets just work on our own behaviors, do our best to interact with people politely l, and let them keep their brain status to themselves if they so wish!

thank you. a lot of people don’t realize that ADHD is literally characterized by cognitive deficits and executive dysfunction. these deficits don’t necessarily make somebody stupid, but having poor attention span, poor working memory and poor processing speed can literally lower your IQ test score even if you score high in other areas. people view IQ and people through a black and white lens completely lacking in nuance, viewing people as stupid or dumb

Can you recommend any neurodivergent creator that’s not bs? It’s useful to have role models and communicators to better understand a late in life diagnosis, but not if these are charlatans.

I have ADHD and it's a massive hindrance. there are some small benefits to it but the list of issues it creates far exceeds those.

I’ve always had a problem with Alex Patridge and his red pill past. And it’s even more annoying how he constantly paints ADHD as a superpower vs a reality where many of us struggle even those of us who are intelligent. I’m a junior data scientist, a straight-A student all my life and I struggle so much with ADHD. Also his videos are peppered with this strange arrogance and superiority that is emerging on TikTok amongst influencers who are claiming neurodivergent online personalities.
