Aldous Leonard Huxley was born on 26 July 1894 in Godalming, Surrey, England, into a distinguished intellectual family. His grandfather, Thomas Henry Huxley, was a famous biologist, while his father, Leonard Huxley, was a writer and editor. Aldous received his education at Eton College and later studied English literature at Balliol College, Oxford. His early life was affected by tragedy. At the age of sixteen, he suffered a severe eye illness that left him partially blind. Despite this difficulty, he continued his studies and developed a passion for literature. He began his writing career with poetry and essays before becoming a successful novelist. Huxley gained international fame through novels such as Crome Yellow (1921), Antic Hay (1923), and especially Brave New World (1932), a dystopian novel exploring technology, social control, and the loss of individuality. His later works reflected his growing interest in philosophy, spirituality, and human consciousness. The Doors of Perception (1954) became one of his best-known nonfiction works. During his later years, Huxley lived mainly in the United States and continued writing despite declining health. He died on 22 November 1963, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 69. He remains one of the most influential literary thinkers of the twentieth century.
