As long as you are wearing shoes that are loose enough to fall off if they get caught on something you are good safety wise.

Sometimes i feel like this can be amazing to actually feel where your legs are! I used to ride my childhood pony bareback and barefoot (not my finest moments) but actually found that he went absolutely lovely and i felt looking back on the videos that i actually had the best position and was much more aware of my legs and where they were. Messing around as a teenager has really improved my riding as an adult 🤣
