@lateafternoonthoughts: Recently, alleged paper leaks, cancelled exams, marking irregularities and wider failures in India's national examination system have left millions of students feeling betrayed by the institutions that determine their futures. For young people, exams aren't just exams. They're years of sacrifice, pressure, and the belief that if you work hard enough, the system will reward you fairly. And that's why these protests matter. Students are only asking for transparent investigations, accountability for examination failures, and a system they can actually trust. Those don't feel like radical demands. Please pay attention to what’s happening, bc behind every headline are young people who did exactly what they were told to do, only to find themselves questioning whether the institutions they trusted are worthy of that trust. The least we can do is listen. #india

I’m dating an Indian man and he keeps saying that India is very corrupt. I keep thinking “It can’t be that bad compared to American corruption”. And it’s wild to see the truth of it all. It’s good for non-Indian people (myself included) to remember that India’s independence is still very young, and the people are showing the leaders what is best for their country

NDA asked for enquiry into how papers leaked. Students used pepperspray at police which caused the reaction. India has developed pioneering infrastructure projects. Do some research before posting gor cheap clicks and views.

This is such a sweeping generalisation. Have you lived in India for 10 years or so or been educated there? There are lots of regional variances and a lot of government officials try to do their best.

And it’s obvious that Indian people although may support the current protest are also aware how these event are cheap thrills for people and Indian diaspora sitting away and with no skin in the game. People in India are also fully aware how these instances intersect with political economy and intent to impact political landscape.

I am conflicted on this as it is very difficult to have a genuine discussion on this topic. People have to make this polarising by stating that is the Govts fault, or that it is the students fault, but the reality is it's somewhere in between.
People in India have been paying for leaked educational papers for a long time, well before Modi or BJP. Does that make it right, absolutely not, but now what is the solution?
I don't think we can look at the UK as a beacon of educational excellence.

More viewpoints are good. And it takes few minutes to pull together our perspectives and share - which is fine as well. But at what point do we peel the layers to see structural issues - and look for counterfactuals. My data science Professor at Cal taught us never to believe that news you see. Find three different and disparate source and look for counterfactuals to popular opinion. Often times the facts are hidden deeper than we think.

As a Sikh. Hate the way India treats its citizens. We ask for our rights despite spilling more blood than any other community . And what happens. Makes me ashamed to be Indian.

We have only seen India under in BJP. A lot of you guys take for granted how much progress has been made. Indians living in India - not the diaspora - understand this, because they’ve lived in India under Congress too. That is why BJP continues to gain more support, but I think it’s ridiculous to expect India to become like China or Singapore in 10 years. It will take decades under BJP, because India has a massive population. under Congress, however, it would never happen.
