Moms Across America sent 42 fast food samples from America's top 10 chains to an independent lab. 8 out of 10 — 80% — tested positive for veterinary antibiotics not approved for human consumption. Monensin was found in Taco Bell, Dunkin', Wendy's, Domino's, Burger King, and McDonald's. Narasin was found in Wendy's, Dunkin', Domino's, and Starbucks. Nicarbazin — an animal contraceptive and antiparasitic that has been prohibited from use — was found in a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. Only two chains came back clean: Chipotle and Subway. Monensin is not approved by the FDA for human use. In humans, it can cause rhabdomyolysis — a breakdown of muscle tissue that damages the heart and kidneys. Overdoses have slowly poisoned and killed cattle. The lead scientist at the Health Research Institute warned: "The FDA's acceptable intake levels focus on acute poisoning. But when people eat fast food daily, there's a concern about chronic poisoning due to accumulation." 85 million Americans eat fast food every day. The FDA's response to the findings: nothing. No investigation. No recalls. No regulatory action. 80% of America's most popular fast food chains tested positive for antibiotics that were never meant for humans. The FDA didn't move.
