It was just one of those things that got passed down from whoever taught whoever taught us - and we all just kept doing it without asking if there was a better way. The extra prep, the fiddling with cotton, the time it added to every single treatment. All of it completely unnecessary. Two minutes I was spending on something that wasn’t making my results any better and the actual fix took about two seconds to learn.
