This is a classic avoidant. This is what they do and it comes from childhood wounds. They genuinely believe that it is because of valuing their independence but it’s actually because they have never really had anyone fighting their corner and are afraid to let people become too close. They will never date someone that they think could hurt them so never commit.

I appreciate receiving this message. I've been struggling with connections and this makes a lot of sense. I'm going to focus on self love for a while and step back from connections.

It makes me wonder if our society has created this in our being because of how trapped we are made to feel on this hamster wheel of hustle culture. Maybe we are striving for freedom in the places we have more control over. If we all viewed commitment/marriage the way God designed it to be, we wouldn’t be so afraid. Two are better than one. We are meant to be in pairs to multiply. Not by just procreating, but putting our strengths together, our intelligence, our ideas, our dreams, together we can break free from the torment and structure this culture has placed in. We are better together. Us against the world kinda mindset. 🥰🙏

Nah, don't build connection to someone you are not ready to commit with. You know, closeness builds emotions and feelings. You can build friendship if you just want connection. Why go beyond? and not commit? Help them change their perception by not giving them access to you.

What a man loves: he protects, he honors, he empowers, he commits, he gives with compassion, he values and he keeps. If he's not doing that, he is not your man. To my girlies, don't waste your energy, save your energy for the one who is. 💐

I think it's laughable how you're romanticizing people like this. It's okay if someone doesn't want anything more than sweet talk and good nights, but only if they are upfront about it with the other person. They shouldn't act selfishly, doing whatever they want, and coming and going as they please. You are literally defending the type of people who only care about themselves and their own pleasure, completely disregarding everyone else.

Can't blame us. We once believed in commitment, in forever, until someone taught us otherwise. We were left alone in a place where we had no choice but to heal, to understand ourselves more deeply, and to rebuild from what was broken. Maybe that's why we now choose freedom, not because we're afraid of love, but because we've learned there's still so much life left to experience, with or without someone by our side. We risked everything back then. Now, we simply can't afford to lose what little of ourselves we fought so hard to get back. It's easy for people to call us selfish. We used to be in their shoes too when love still felt simple, when forever still sounded certain, and when it was easy to judge people whose choices we didn't understand. Then life happened. Experience has a way of humbling us. It teaches lessons no advice ever could. Sometimes, what looks like selfishness is simply someone protecting the peace they had to bleed to find.

Love this! Thank you for sharing. On my podcast we often talk about capacity and differences in how we speak, show, process, pace, and experience love. Something I am working on myself and desire to help others with!

I think love shouldn't be mind games. It always should be intentional. Why would someone show love to another person if that person just want it casually? I guess it is not love. It is a trauma that disguised as love.

if someone loves you, that person will commit and build life with you. But if that person is unsure-- expect a lot of reasons :) Know your place!

I like this perspective a lot. It goes to show that each person is unique. One craves connection, another craves commitment and others crave both. Interesting perspective, I may not 100% agree to this man as I have different values system, but this post made me understand the difference in mindset.

Sounds like an avoidant. Definitely a no no for an anxiously attached one who needs a constant reassurance, like me.

Nah it’s a different story when someone doing it to multiple people and they even—ahh you know what I mean. For your peace too, just like they do, don’t commit and give your time and peace with them. Just find someone else.

Yes they can do that and not start something or leave the girl alone. Yes it is valid but not a pass for them to do it. Its called selfishness. And nope you dont need to defend them. Because we all want whats best for us. Every feeling is valid. If ganito sila they dont deserve someone. They can be single and enjoy life alone no need to drag someone with them.

This is too much justifying someone who clearly wants the cake and eat it too. Who isn't clear about their intentions get hurt in the latter. It's unavoidable when as humans - feelings get involved. It's hypocrisy to say we don't want a future with someone we naturally connect. It's just a matter of communication knowing your boundaries, and allowing space for both of you to grow. The choice to be with each other is something we all want - yes? But that is the chance we all risk in any connection. It's a risk either we succeed or fail. We gamble hoping life will give us a break this timr. And that's the truth we all have no control over unfortunately.

Sometimes people wrap it in beautiful words, but at its core, it’s someone who doesn’t want to commit while still enjoying the comfort, attention, and convenience you provide. I’ve been there. No matter how many times they try to justify the connection, if they only want the closeness without the commitment, it’s kinder to yourself to walk away while you still have something left of you. It’s the “almost lover” dynamic, where they act like you’re together and enjoy the emotional benefits of a relationship without actually choosing one. That said, there’s nothing wrong with being non-committal if you’re honest about it from the start. And there’s nothing wrong with dating with the intention to commit. We all have the freedom to choose what we want. But if our intentions don’t align, the kindest thing we can do is acknowledge that and not continue forcing something that serves only one person. Be fair to those who are genuinely non-committal, and be equally fair to those who are dating because they’re looking for commitment. Neither is wrong, they’re simply looking for different things.
