Why I stopped making content. 1. Originality and creativity are dead. Everyone is chasing the latest trend and it’s killed the ability for anything artistic to be shown to audiences, most of my followers never even end up seeing my content because it’s not designed for the algorithm to push. Everyone who plays the algorithm game is either posting the same 4 poses in a carpark/fuel station larping overpriced gear, or speeding down the highway promoting illegal activity. 2. Everyone is trying to sell you something. Whether it’s a discount code or a poorly made hoodie, everyone is trying to make a quick buck. I understand the creators incentive: social media doesn’t pay but affiliate codes will (I’ve pushed these myself), but when every single post becomes an advertisement in a cost-of-living crisis, it’s tone deaf and disingenuous to your followers. There’s a balance that needs to be respected. I will be back and I will make content again. But it’s not going to be content for an algorithm. It’s going to be content for humans, that is designed to leave a net positive. If my reach suffers because of it, at least I’m being true to myself.
