Yes you are right riba is so scary, however, there is a fatwa by dr saajid umar on Islam21c stating it’s permissibility. I understand the argument he presents is critiqued by islamicfinanceguru, but I think it’s worthwhile to let ppl know these fatwa exist. In the end, deeds are judged by their intention.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the verse translates to “Those who devour (consume) usury..” I would like to argue that the verse talks about forbidding interest in terms of personal gain, and we are not allowed to gain from interest. We are advised to pay back any debts we have accumulated in the verses following 2:275. Of course, if we have taken out a student loan, we should have true intentions to pay it back, with the help of Allah.

There’s a recent fatwa by shaykh zahed fettah which is very long and he gets into details about everything regarding uk uni loans as other imams/shaykh aren’t familiar with how the uk student loans work and is definitely worth listening to. I was completely against loans aswell until I listened to his fatwa it’s about an hour an half long
