If my parents pets got sick either nothing was done or they'd be given up because my parents couldnt afford vet care (but for some reason always had pets) and thats why I chose to become a veterinarian.

My rabbit chewed through the skin and muscles on his foot until I could see bone. I was a broke ass college student and my parents were like “it’s a rabbit”. I’ll never forget the vet I took him too who worked with me for MONTHS to heal the injury and get him healthy again, I explained to the vet that I wanted desperately to help him but that I was super strapped for cash… I’ll never know exactly how much I saved but it had to have been over a thousand dollars. He gave me discounts on medications, only charged for the initial visit, did laser treatments for free… I would’ve lost my baby without his generosity

My dad was very similar growing up, he hit my dog once before I hit him back. He never laid a hand on him again and I became a lot braver. Unfortunately my soul dog has passed now but I wouldn’t be half the person I am today without him.

My dad always asks me if buying my chickens feed is worth it during periods where I only get 0-3 eggs a day, but my chickens aren't only there for eggs. I love my chickens, they're my friends, I take care of them because I love them

Thinking back to all the “outdoor” dogs we had growing up. Poor babies were so neglected. I loved them all as much as I was allowed. My dog now as an adult has her own bedroom with a full bed (that she requires to be made up every morning 😂) and is spoiled beyond measure lol

this. my 5 yr old cat has cancer and my parents keep asking how much money am I gonna 'waste' on her and when im gonna put her down. Until her quality of life is no longer good for her Ill be spending every last cent I have and then some on her. I took her on, shes my responsibility, and what the fuck else is money for than to take care of the things I love.

my parents werent like this.. but when I turned 16 and got my first puppy, they started saying if theres a war we'll eat her, if food runs out we'll eat her etc. I'm in AUSTRALIA, eating dogs isnt even part of the culture here, so these comments aren't normal. I became so horribly attached and anxious when leaving her alone even just to walk across the road to the shops. Shes 12 now, but god, I still feel so nauseas when I think of it.
