@krishnachaytanya: An API gateway is the one front door every request passes through before it reaches your services. Without it, every microservice handles its own auth, rate limiting and routing, and one bad request can slip through and breach them. With a gateway there's a single entry point: it checks every request's identity (auth), throttles traffic when too many hit at once (rate limiting), and routes each call to the right service (users, orders, payments, search). One door. Auth, rate limit, route. That's how 100 services sit behind a single guarded entrance. This is what Kong, NGINX, Envoy and Apigee do in production.
