My parents got divorced by the time I entered kindergarten. I still have pictures of them when they were married, including one when they were dating. it is one of my prized possessions. it make suck rn but your kids will love you for it and hopefully you can save pictures for them as they get older if they want them❤️

I did Christmas decorations the last couple of years. It was easier for me to get rid of things when I had a goal in mind of keeping two bins and that is it. So I kept what I wanted, what fit in the bin and anything else I made sure went to someone who needed Christmas decorations and would love and appreciate them. And when it gets hard, I always think to myself if my entire house burnt down with everything in it I would still have the memories. Also, I always try to think to myself if this disappeared today would I go out and try to repurchase it? That one helps a lot.

I’m a child of divorce and my parents were separated within a year of my birth. 36 years later and both parents have random pictures of the other one at their house. Like they are both downsizing now and going through pictures to split between the kids and are finding pictures of each other. Keep photos even if it’s hard, let the kids get them later!

I kept the pictures, the ornaments, and all that. It’s not for me, it’s for my kids. They loved that part of life, and those memories don’t disappear; the future just looks different. I gave them the option to put up ornaments with their dad and I in family ornaments. They have tons of pictures from us married and dating. I don’t want to erase the memories my kids have of their parents, but they have a bright future to look forward to with two healthy parents- even if they live in different homes!
