@melissadivaristhompson: Let’s talk about the story avoidance tells you about yourself. It says you’re independent. Low-maintenance. That you just need more space than other people, that you’re fine on your own, that caring less is a kind of strength. It’s a convincing story. It’s also the exact thing that quietly costs you the people who get closest. Because here’s what’s usually underneath “I need space.” Not that you don’t care. That caring, and needing, once felt dangerous. Somewhere back there, depending on someone taught you it was safer not to. So now, the moment love gets close enough to matter, something in you reaches for the exit before you’ve even decided to. And if that’s already cost you someone, I know the temptation is to fix it from the outside, find the words, send the message, win them back. But the door didn’t close because you said the wrong thing. It closed because of a pattern that will keep operating no matter who you’re with, until you turn and look at it. That’s the part I want you to hear kindly: the work was never about them. It’s about the part of you that learned to call loneliness “independence.” When you tend to that, you stop needing to flee closeness, because closeness stops feeling like a threat. I can’t tell you it brings a specific person back. But it makes you someone who can let love in and actually stay. And that’s the thing you were really after the whole time. If you recognize yourself here, that recognition is the beginning. 💛 This information is for psychoeducational purposes only and not to be misconstrued as therapy. #AvoidantAttachment #AttachmentStyle #Healing #RelationshipAdvice #SelfWork

He pushed me away before a big move across country. I don’t hold any hate in my heart for him and would take him back if he did the work. But the patterns have to be fixed by both people, and I was the only one doing the work:/

How do I live with the guilt of pushing away someone who was willing to love me forever if I had just chosen to stay instead of running away from it all? I am in therapy learning about my avoidant attachment style and many other things about myself but I am struggling with the guilt of what I did to her in leaving her behind.

This is why my ex and I couldn’t get on the same page. I told them about the pattern or going cold and distant and leaving during conflict. It was exhausting and they refused to address their internal issues. Too much time has passed and I wouldn’t take them back even if they did change at this point.

i have abandonment issues from childhood which caused anger and issues with my partner. i pushed him away and i didn’t realize what i was doing until we broke up. I have put in work by going to therapy. I wish I would have got help earlier but God has a funny way of teaching you things.

yeah. leave them alone. we re on different levels of awareness, maturity, existing. even apologies after time become just eh. I genuenly never feel anything after a while. dont need it. cus i understand it all..but the cowardice ,the non existing character of the avoidants. just nah. go away.

Is it bad he asked for space multiple times and this is the first time I’m actually giving it to him and I’m getting irritated and impatient? I’m on 3 weeks of no contact and I’m just waiting for him to come back.

Took her walking away and going no contact with me to face the truth. She begged for years for us to move the relationship forwards and I was terrified to. Now she is with someone new and I need to learn to let go. Facing that I am a FA and trying to heal that within a break up has been the hardest work of my life but I’m finally starting to believe I’m worth the work.

No wait….if they are not doing the work….if they ignore you telling them time and time again the damage of their actions….then it is completely on YOU. Accountability, respect and change in actions will be the only things to ever make a reconnect work. What ended it wasn’t them…it was you!!!! All the patterns and behaviours can be fixed….but it was completely “YOU”❤️

How do I began to do the work. I open up slowly about past trauma and in my head I rethink wat can go wrong or how will I look in their eyes when opening up.

After 15 years and a missed misscaurage she wasn't happy she become depressed and I never stopped trying to support her. She cheated (emotionally I hope) Had when I found out she become a different person. lots of anger, blame shifting and dismissive abuse. Nearly a year since I found out and it still gets me
