This. Being deified is actually terrifying in real life. Then they create a one sided internal beef based on their projection, like bitch I bleed and cry too.

As a trans person my brain instantly went to when “allies” give a lot of lip service to propping trans people up as like “ethereal ascended humans” (and not just regular people who happen to be trans) because it so obviously blatantly reads as “I’ll never see or treat you as a regular man/woman so instead of unlearning the bigotry that makes me think this way i’m going to just overly compliment you so it makes me feel like I’m being a good person”.

Deification is absolutely a problem bc it does not allow for nuance. Family, friends, celebrities, teachers, etc. are deified consistently.

You’re also setting them up for failure. They will never meet the standard you are setting them up for.

Yes, from personal experience, you don't feel heard or seen. If people hold on tight to this version of you, they brush off everything that doesn't fit into their idea of you. It is an alienating experience, even as a grown woman this feels very off-putting.

Yes people also project their own needs and expectations on those people, denying the person's needs and experience.

100% agree and it's depressing to see how so many marginalized groups have to deal with this. It's a constant swinging pendulum between being dehumanized and deified: never being allowed to be just human.

People deify theorists all the time and that’s how we end up with bad medicine and science. Galen, Freud, Darwin. These people were human and they had great ideas. But people didn’t question their conclusions and it led to a long line of misinterpretation and blindly following theories. That’s not their fault. Just because somebody writes a book doesn’t mean it’s completely true. And both Freud and Darwin struggled to decide if and when to publish because of this very fear of their words being over used prematurely. They wrote about it. Both of them.
