I mentally checked out, but l gave my partner clear warnings this was going to happen, as I kept having to bring up the same issue over and over again. When we did eventually break up, he said he never noticed a difference in my energy towards him, even though there was a clear difference (we stopped being intimate, we stopped having meaningful conversations as I was the one to start most conversations etc) and that things would change and he different. We’re trying to make it work, but it just doesn’t feel the same as it once did :(

there's a bit more to this as a woman who does the exact thing lol. that checked out period is when you're tired of asking for things to be different. you're at the point where you've given so many chances and begged for things to change and nothing has happened. so you just take a step back, and wait to see if the distance does anything since talking did nothing. by then men will either break up with you, not realise that anything has changed (this proves they don't care and so you leave) or they change (still waiting on this one personally but I've heard tales)

There are lots of reasons women do this and it often comes down to preparation. Break ups suck, even when you want them to happen. It’s a lot easier to leave that relationship when you have already truly made your peace with it ending and know it’s for the best and you will be okay alone and you want to be certain in your decision. For some you might want to see whether your partner will recognise you slipping away and fight for you, and their reaction may change your trajectory. If there’s houses, kids, pets ect involved, you need to prepare.
