My homie theorizes Athena was actual the girl they kill. As much as they reference Zeus’ law, Athena might be the one character who was in fact a god in disguise. Odysseus’ guilt is realizing the one time he ignored that law both gods & men suffered for it.

I feel my only issue with this is removing so much of the presences of the pantheon makes the point to ambiguous, like it feels like humans care more about Zeus’s law than Zeus himself

You summarized everything I’ve been saying in a more succinct and eloquent way lol. As a history and English teacher it’s not the best adaptation…there were so many things they could have done differently but it’s a movie about theme not plot. The spiritual aspects of the movie are gorgeous. It’s nuanced and allows for a lot of dissection and reflection. This is art at its finest. The disagreement IS the art, it’s subjective.

As a former Classics major, honestly the movie wasn’t woke enough and it represented the myth through a very modern Christian male perspective, I think I need to just stop watching Nolan movies because I’m always disappointed and I’m not into film enough to appreciate his tech achievements. But I’m hopeful people remember how important all history is in today’s world
