Brilliantly done. thank you! this has always been my favorite ghost story since I was a boy. We have an area we refer to as Terrytown. I will always think of Washington Irving when passing through it now.

Washington Irving wrote about the Van Tassels because the family were good friends of his. The Van Tassels really were a prominent family in the area and many buildings are dedicated to them. I have a friend that is a Van Tassel and is a descendant of that family. His sister is even named Katrina!

One of my favorite trips with my husband 7 years ago. We spent a weekend there and had a blast. Even the school district mascot is the Headless Horseman.

On 9/11 we had a puppet show and it was Sleepy Hollow (I mean like the good puppet marionettes). Like 10 minutes into the show the principal stopped the show and pulled teachers aside. Then we all got sent home. My parents forgot me for like 2 hours 😅 when I got home I was so mad that we stopped the puppet show for a “movie” (it’s how my parents tried to explain it) and we didn’t have a makeup. (I was in 1st grade when 9/11 happened)
