@offenceregister: Chris Pincher • The Case: The former Conservative Deputy Chief Whip was accused of drunkenly groping two men at the private Carlton Club in London in June 2022, leading to formal police complaints and parliamentary inquiries. • Legal Outcome: Pincher resigned as Deputy Chief Whip, lost the party whip, and was subsequently handed an eight-week suspension from the House of Commons by the Standards Committee, forcing his resignation as an MP in September 2023. • Summary & Case Details: Chris Pincher served as the MP for Tamworth from 2010 until 2023 and held key government positions, culminating in his appointment as Deputy Chief Whip under Prime Minister Boris Johnson. On 29 June 2022, Pincher attended a private gathering at the Carlton Club in London, where witnesses observed him engaging in severe drunken misconduct and groping two male guests without their consent. The incident prompted formal complaints to the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) and Metropolitan Police referrals. The fallout was swift and politically catastrophic; revelations regarding Downing Street's prior knowledge of previous misconduct allegations against Pincher triggered a major government crisis, ultimately resulting in the mass resignation of ministers and the downfall of Boris Johnson’s premiership in July 2022. Following an extensive investigation, the Parliamentary Standards Committee concluded in July 2023 that Pincher had engaged in egregious sexual misconduct and brought Parliament into disrepute. The committee imposed an eight-week suspension, which breached the threshold for a recall petition and prompted Pincher to resign his parliamentary seat in September 2023.
