@kyledoeshvac: My approach on trade school 👇 I worked full-time during the day, went to trade school at night, and still made time to train 4 days a week. It wasn't always fun, but it gave me a strong foundation while I was getting real-world experience. Trade school didn't replace field experience, and field experience didn't replace learning the fundamentals. They complemented each other. If you're serious about becoming a great technician, don't expect to skip learning the fundamentals and somehow become one. What route did you take? #HVAC #TradeSchool #HVACTech #Apprentice #SkilledTrades
School is a waste of time just go straight into an apprenticeship, literally payed to learn

My experience and almost finished with school it’s worth it man. It’s just up to you and your work ethic. The schools also helps you get placed on jobs too. And if you wanted to go the union route you don’t have to do 5 years of apprenticeship to be a journeyman you’d only have to do 2 years

Trade school is a total scam. You’re better off getting into a Union apprenticeship. We have our own training school and you earn while you learn you don’t have to pay anything for school.

Yup took me 8 months then when I tried to get a job everyone wanted me to be installer which I didnt want. Finally I begged 1 company to give me a chance they asked how much I want to get paid. Most of my classmates expect at least $18/ hr. I told the owner anything, He told me how about minimum wage? I said okie, just give me that chance. Few days in he told me he cant pay me minimum wage he would pay me $20/hr. That was years ago and that how I got my first job as hvac tech. Now I am a control tech

I agree, as someone who didn’t go to trade school and learned over the years with experience, I would have been better off learning the fundamentals first. But most helpers out of school have terrible work ethic for some reason for me. I finally just got one who is good.

Do you recommend still going to trade school instead of getting a apprenticeship if i learn the basics in 2 years (16 years old to 18)

Not HVAC, but electrician.
I think trade school can be great as a resume booster and can give you a good foundation so you can hit the ground running on the job site.
Having said that, I do think that apprenticeships are superior in a lot of ways, not the least of which that you get paid while you learn.

Well said, young man. Graduated trade school in '99 and had more electrical knowledge than anyone other than the most senior mechanic when I got my 1st job. Still pretty sharp in electrical world and it's because I learned how it works on the atomic level.

It's worth it for me at least because because my tuition is paid for the only thing you have to pay for out of pocket is the tools. it'll probably make it easier to get into my local union also

I’m going to one of the best junior college trade programs in my county for hvac. Lecture and labs. Unfortunately I missed this upcoming semester but I can apply for the winter semester in late October to early November. Around February or march i plan to look for apprenticeship or helper jobs at acco while going to the local 342 or staying in JC
