Majima did the right thing here and it’s one of the MANY reasons I love him as a character. He still loves her as of pirate yakuza in Hawaii (one of the karaoke songs has scenes from their time together in 0) and hopes she is living happily and is loved. He knew that his world was dangerous and that bringing her into it would have put her life in danger and he didn’t want that for her (that is what we call true love. If you were wondering, sometimes you have to let them go to prove you love them) and his insane act is to mask how truly damaged he really is and this is one of those things that damaged him inside.
