Why does a dismissive avoidant even want a relationship?

I will keep saying this until all the women listen… you have to be the one to leave. Leave them. Leave first!!!!!!!! Whatever you do, do not WAIT to get discarded, because it’s going to happen & it’s going to be horrific. They will completely devalue you & cheat on you & become cold, cruel & demonic beyond comprehension. If you leave first / leave them, then YOU hold the power.

My husband is like this, I learned to prioritize myself and accept his acts of service as his form of love for me. It was so hard in the beginning, but it taught me to love myself and put myself first.

This is my husband. He avoids any conversations about emotions. I have gone silent and stopped brining up my feelings.

If it’s not a hobby or work obsession, is it normal for this type of person to always be on their phone?

I believe it’s more of a categorization of actions then of a person, as in she was avoidant of that subject rather than she is a dismissive avoidant, don’t put your partner in a box, help them by understanding, they don’t want to be that way.

DA’s view you as a chapter in our book, at least I do. I view humanity as a speck in the cosmos that at the end of the day doesn’t matter. This allows me to compartmentalize and dismiss people and never really look back.

This is my boyfriend 100 % he was all about his career and at times I felt like he would talk to me like an employee. I would have to get very upset or not cooperate with what he wanted from me, to get him to care about what I needed. Forget anything I wanted that didnt happen at all. It was all about what he wanted or needed. He thinks that hes this great guy, cause he doesn't like to argue. He doesn't like to listen either, to anything I have to say about whats bothering me and he would just stay completely quiet till I gave up speaking and walked away. He has never been accountable, for what he's done in this relationship, to damage it... The real truth is, he doesn't like anything asked of him, but wants me to take care of him. Its very lonely to be with these types of people. They don't change in my opinion. You'll live a very lonely, unhappy life with these men. No intimacy, no love, you can't count on them to be there for you on any level. So if thats sounds good to you. this is the perfect man for you 😒

They think nothing is wrong with them especially after never ever having consequences of their choices. They will never change. Don't waste your life. Chose yourself, heal and move on. It does get better

Married to a DA for 20 years. Childhood trauma is absolutely correct- his parents were awful. I spent most of our marriage wondering what was wrong with me. I just discovered his a DA, after he had an affair but all the signs have always been here. It's exhausting.

What if I tried so hard that I finally reached where I disassociate and now focus on hobbies and my children because that’s all I care about anymore

I let me partner move into my house and it was like it was instantly that change started happening- the sexual interest towards me instantly disappeared, literally wasn't even present around the house, would just sit on the corner of the bed getting high and sleeping every day and it turned into 3 yrs of myself trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, constantly asking what/why and eventually getting to the point and telling my partner that change needs to happen or moving out is needed. so now 3.5 yrs of a relationship that hasn't been terrible but has completely lacked the basic things that most relationships have. sexual connection, help around the house or just being present around the house

Mine after work he hyper fixates on crypto stuff and watching tv at the same time everyday…. Doesn’t ever try to plan anything for us to do. I feel deprioritized and like it’s one sided and I have to ask to be see and to spend quality time that’s not watching tv together.

My husband lived in a very religious home where you were the child and the adult made it clear you were to be seen and not heard. His parents fought all the time when he was young and he just learned to shut down to not get in trouble.

I’ve been married to a Dismissive Avoidant for over 20 years. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart and you have to truly love them to stay with them. It’s hard.
