I'm old but when I was still in high school we had a World Religions class, where we just learned ABOUT different religions, not participated in them. That's how it should be. Education, not indoctrination.

Had a professor in college come in ecstatically happy about a religious court ruling where prayer was allowed in classrooms so long as nobody objected. He asked permission, this is the Bible Belt mind you, and no one objected if he said a brief positive prayer. So he did. Almost everyone bowed their head, not me because I was watching their faces, as we participated in a prayer to Allah. When outrage started he pointed out “I never said which god the prayer was going to be for. And this is why prayer should be kept out of schools regardless of what the courts say.” Great teaching moment.

we had an option- our parents picked what scripture we did, I finally went to non scripture in high school and finally felt free to believe what i want to - did up to my holy communion and now don’t consider myself a catholic

There are schools for muslim faith children which is right for their own faith. There are Catholic schools for children who practice this faith and myself agree with bring back prayers in church of england schools.

I see a bunch of people in these comments saying religion in schools should be banned entirely and not taught? But I feel like that does more harm than good, learning about different religions is a huge part of history and if you cut that out then you would be missing most of history

I’m all for students praying if they want. But not having a teacher during class force them to sit through it. If they want to have a Bible study at lunch-sure. If they want to have prayer rooms for Muslim students-sure. But no student should be forced to be involved and no student should be told no they can’t do that and another group be aloud to.

Also at work, as a Muslim I get invited to all these mandatory Christmas events, and even was asked once what is my favorite Christmas meal and drink are. There’s a large population of Muslims where I work, we don’t say a thing - BUT just imagine if we did any of this for Eid.
