the saliva thing has killed my fillings and made me lose the tooth. 😭 the filling fell out and the tooth had to be pulled

I recently got braces, but for now they're only on my upper back teeth. The braces on my upper front teeth will be added tomorrow, and the lower braces will be added in September. My orthodontist mentioned something about 'expansion' or 'enlargement,' and I'm not exactly sure what they meant. I have a small gap between my two upper front teeth, my lower teeth are slightly tilted, and my jaw is a little asymmetrical. I'm worried that the treatment might make the gap bigger before it closes. Can you explain what the orthodontist is probably trying to achieve?
