@itscassieblanko: Just for context 😂 Every time I drop Cairo off at his grandparents house, he wants them all to himself. If I stick around to hang with my mom and dad, he gets jealous because he wants his one-on-one time with Grandma and Grandpa so thats why he was having a moment. #autism #specialneeds #autismawareness
So clearly he can listen and clearly he knows right from wrong because as soon as he did it, he ran so maybe if you start putting down strict or discipline you won’t have to put up with that type of behavior cause he’s capable of understanding

It’s so scary on how he’s gonna act when he’s older, like hitting other adults or kids etc.

HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. EVERY TIME HE ACTS OUT HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. AND THERE R NO PUNISHMENT FOR THAT. THE GENTLE PARENT THING U DO. DOESNT FIX THIS. SPEAKING AS A SPECIAL MOM.

Great job!! You See how he instantly listens when you’re assertive with him? I know it’s hard but as a behavioral technician, sometimes being is assertive is the only way to stop the behavior. When redirecting and putting them on time out doesn’t work you have to let them know you’re in charge. Most kids with autism know exactly what they’re doing. If talk to him in a calm voice he’s probably going to keep attacking you but when you’re assertive he knows you’re not going to tolerate that.

So think about the teachers, EAs and students. Not that we dont want to be inclusive... but just how... how.. can we risk the safety of others....

As a school social worker who works exclusively with autistic children, this is not okay. Autism doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be boundaries. Calmly and firmly say, “No, it’s time to go inside,” walk him in, and hold the limit. Validate his feelings, use a visual timer if needed, but don’t give in. Boundaries, consistency, and structure help autistic children thrive and learn limits.
