To me, it actually makes more sense for an older vampire to be able to use modern technology better than a young vampire. Armand has lived 500 years; he has seen the world and technology evolve drastically. It makes sense that he's had to change and get used to so much that he would have learned to embrace technology and try to use it. In my mind, younger vampires are more likely to try and hold onto the world they once knew because it's not as far away. It would make sense for them to push new technology away.
