![Al-Imām al-Qāḍī Shaykh al-Ḥanafiyyah Abū al-Yusr al-Bazdawī (b. 421 AH) said : “I have found books written by the ascetic Shaykh, Imām Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī al-Samarqandī, on the science of Tawḥīd, in accordance with the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamāʿah. He was one of the leaders of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah and was known for his miracles (karāmāt). My father, the learned Imam, may Allah have mercy on him, told me about his grandfather, the ascetic Shaykh ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Mūsā, may Allah have mercy on him, who had narrated some of these miracles. Our grandfather had taken the meanings and understandings of our scholars’ books, including “Kitāb al-Tawḥīd” and “Kitāb al-Ta’wīlāt”, from people who studied directly with Shaykh Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī, may Allah have mercy on him. However, in the “Kitāb al-Tawḥīd” authored by Shaykh Abū Manṣūr, there is some obscurity and lengthiness, and its structure is somewhat difficult.
