with all due respect, i think you need to revisit his message well, He's just trying to stay away from what will make him missed heaven. because when he retired from the pastoral work, he doesn't want to involve himself into church activities that will let people to talk about him which will cause him pain which will be come a sin to him. if he chooses the one to take over when he retired, it's going to bring backlash to him, so he's going to leave everything for the church to take it's couse without involving himself. by so doing he can focus on his salvation. to be a leader is not an easy thing to jock with
