both variants are really good but the main thing dc definitely shouldn't do is to give damian a love interest right now(we know dc, they can do it). he needs his own development without a spontaneous relationship with the person he knows from like 1day to 1 month(again, we know dc, they can do that). + my own variant: damian wanted to return young jon back and did it so they are about the same age now. with the help of dami jon becomes clever enough(talking about education) so they start this journey together as they used to make it

You did mention how Matt fraction is speed running Damian’s lore so new readers can understand Damian’s character development in a short amount of time, it wouldn’t be crazy for a full circle moment to happen, letting Damian to go work with Grayson again. Shows how he developed as a person when he was Graysons Robin but also how he can develop again as a person that isn’t in Bruce or Talia’s shadow
