@the_whiny_gynie: Lipedema is a widely misunderstood metabolic disease that primarily impacts women. Lipedema is complex and it is real. Women with Lipedema have fat deposits that typically appear in their extremities. For us, that means it appears in our upper arms, hips, butt & thighs. This diseased fat is resistant to caloric deficit. It is fibrotic. It can make our legs feel tired and heavy. We both bruise easily. My mother cannot diet away her lipedema. People who suggest she can are misinformed and should really work on educating themselves instead of shaming women. This is especially maddening when it comes to doctors. #thewhinygynie #lipedema #metabolicdisease #lipedemalegs #medicalgaslighting
Doctors shouldn’t be saying that to anyone. Yes lipedema is different, but the issue here is fatphobia in healthcare

I have this lipedema in my legs and arms. Before i knew what it was I had a tummy tuck and lipo 360. The lipo on the arms (batwing area) was extremely painful. The lipo areas hurt on my body for 2 yrs after. Any slight touch to my skin it will feel like burning pain. I never understood now I know cause its liledema fat.

Can the fat be normal even if you feel the small little beads? Or is it always lipedema

Diet doesn't help, I've tried for 14 years (since 19/ 20 years old) hormones play such a huge role. Mine only started since I was going through puberty at 13. I had cellulite and a bigger lodger body since 15. Since then I got more and more pear shaped with cellulite. And if you're and African girl with jiggly thighs people assume all things about you.... Mind you I didn't have a boyfriend until 23.😩.so good to hear from people who understand.

I am sorry your mom went through that. Thank you for sharing yours and her stories about lipedema. I’m always trying to learn more about lipedema after my husband was diagnosed with it.

That’s awful, cruel and insensitive! I would be looking for a new doctor immediately. I’m sorry your Mom had to go through that.

I had surgery bc I was having difficulty walking. My mom, who was afflicted more than me, kept falling bc her legs would get in her way.

I will say that keto and intermittent fasting drastically improved my lipedema! I lost 70 lbs of inflammation, fluid… Sadly I got off and am really battling it now with perimenopause. I also now use a vibration plate and it helps! I am trying to restart and STAY on keto, since it’s the only thing that truly helped me.
