Hot take. The brother accidentally killed her an the parents tried to cover it up so nothing would happen to him. Many reports say that the mother lied to the operator on the phone. The dad also went straight to the basement after the police said to search the house for her. He intentionally tampered with the body to cover up fingerprints or anything like that.

I personally think it could be related to the files instead of it being her brother, Everyone thinks it's her brother but it's more likely that her parents were trading or selling their kids.

okay so i’ve been obsessed with this case for over 10 years. i did my college essay on this case. after much research and MANY podcasts, police documents, conspiracies etc… my ultimate conclusion is that it was her father and her father alone. look at her medical records and how excessively she went for her private area and “bad breath” her brother was just too young to be this organized. a lot of people bring up the ransom note and point to her mother- however, the results were inconclusive. I think her dad was touching her and hurt her, he panicked and staged all this. now he puts up a front to fund the investigation, but he knows they’ll never find any evidence against him that isn’t circumstantial, because he conveniently was able to be the one to discover her body.
